About this deal

Without giving anything away, the ending is truly a remarkable and unexpected twist. Did you know in advance that this is how you would end it, or did the conclusion come about as you worked, slowly revealing itself to you?

Me Before You is one of my all-time favorites. I hesitated reading anything else by her, worrying it wouldn't compare to MBY or would somehow taint that good memory. There are some key themes that Jojo Moyes works through - the issue of lies and well-meant deception, versus the right to know is an important one. The roles that money and status play in the complex web of marriage is another. If I had to describe to someone what this book is about, I don't know what I would say, I'm still not even sure what it was about. A women's journey of being a bitchy unhappy depressed women to finding happiness? Me pareció interesante. ). Pero ha sido imposible de seguir. Sadly this place was a total disappointment. I’ve often walked past and thought how I’d love to pop in. Sadly it was dirty and had a musty smell as if it hadn’t been cleaned in a few weeks. I went at 8.40 am and you’d... expect it to have been cleaned first thing.I’ve read several of her books and have liked them a lot but I didn’t care for this. I did not enjoy the story and I didn’t feel or believe the romance. I hate cheaters so that was tainting everything for me. I never got pulled in and I wanted to so much. Even at the very end I thought the story would redeem itself but noooooo! We are given stories about the people that relate to Suzanna past and present to flesh out her otherwise insipid life. While Moyes doesn’t make it easy for us to like the characters, she adds the right amount of subtlety to convince us there is more to her protagonists than first meets the eye. In addition, the characters lives are quite interesting, and Moyes has you wishing you were there in the shop, having an espresso, and watching the story unfold. The characters in the novel—Suzanna, Alejandro, Vivi, Athene to name just a few—are incredibly complex, though some sober and reflective, while others have a much louder joie de vivre. What led you to these characters, and how did this story come about?

The Peacock Emporium by Jojo Moyes Book Marks reviews of The Peacock Emporium by Jojo Moyes

Family and class are both significant themes in this book—and in some of your other books as well—and we see Suzanna, Douglas, and others chaffing at their tethers. What is it about issues of class that makes it important to you? While the series may have started off as a romance, Jojo Moyes has turned Louisa Clark’s story into one about learning to be, and to love, yourself.”— Bustle Through the influence of Jessie, Suzanna gets to know the other shopkeepers and customers in the neighborhood, and the store’s business grows, as does Suzanna’s happiness. One male customer in particular seems to drop by more and more frequently. But Suzanna is married, and Jessie has a long-time boyfriend. They’re not sure what it means.
